2nd Winter Camp for Street Children (2005)
comes to an end
Kathmandu March 7- 2nd winter camp (2005)
conducted for street children successfully concluded today
on 7th March 2005. CWIN with the help of Plan Nepal organized
a winter camp for street children with the aim of protecting
them form the shivering cold of the winter season and enhancing
their socialization, empowerment along with increasing possibilities
in family reunion of these children. The winter camp was formally
inaugurated on 28th December 2004.Altogether 519 children
benefited form the two month long camp run by CWIN- Nepal.
During closing ceremony Ms Suminima Tuladhar,
program coordinator of CWIN stated; camp provided children
with the opportunities to take part in various activities,
games, music, handicraft, ceramic, origami, pottery trainings,
health camps, life skill trainings, educational video shows,
street theatre training, psychosocial counselling and other
recreational and entertainment activities.
In the program it was also stated that during
two month long winter camp numerous famous personalities came
to interact and train children. The famous personalities form
a variety of sectors such as social workers, artists, actors;
doctors interacted and shared their experiences with children.
Some of the famous people who participated during the camp
were famous singer Ramesh Shrestha, actor Rajesh Hamal, singer
Dhiraj Rai, musician Ram Bhandari, artist Puran Shakya, Sujan
Chitrakar, writer Sapana, Comedian Shree Krishna Sinkhada,
and folk singer Buddhi Sagar Bashyal etc.
On the ceremony, president of CWIN Mr Gauri Pradhan said,
"This kind of winter camps for street children not only
protect children form shivering cold of winter season but
this will also help in the social reintegration of these children."
In the same way Mr Sudhakar Baidhya form
Plan Nepal said," There are opportunities for street
children as well, the children must utilize and reflect what
they have learned form the camp to their activities and try
to make difference in their lives."
In the ceremony it was also stated that,
the total of 519 children participated in the camp, 105 children
were socially reintegrated, 363 children received set of warm
clothes and shoes, 371 children were provided with the night
shelter facilities, 449 children received health camp services
and workshop on various subjects were conducted 60 times through
out the camp.
