Established in 1987, Child Workers in Nepal Concerned Centre (CWIN) is a pioneer organisation in Nepal for the rights of the child and against child labour exploitation. CWIN is an advocate organisation for the child's rights with focus on children living and working under the most difficult circumstances. CWIN's main areas of concern are child labour, street children, child marriage, bonded laour, trafficking of children, children in conflict with laws and commercial-sexual exploitation of children.

As a watchdog in the field of child rights in the country, CWIN acts as a voice of children through lobbying, campaign and pressure to the government to protect and promote children's rights in the country, and to end all kindssss of exploitation, abuse and discrimination against children. As a concerned organisation to the children at risk, CWIN has been also undertaking a number of socialisation, support and rehabilitation programme through its various programmes. More >

Government to step in to protect children online in Nepal

Minister Gautam addressing the Consultation Programme

"I will take all necessary action to amend existing laws to protect children from the alarming problem of online sexual abuse of children. I will also take due action to stop using cubicles, (which is being used to maintain privacy) in the cyber cafes with immediate effect." Said newly appointed Hon'ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Bam Dev Gautam with huge applaud. He also expressed the need to continuously amend laws to include new issues and will ensure a cyber law and a functioning cyber police.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs made his remarks at a Consultation on Protecting Children Online in Nepal on 11th September 2008 in Kathmandu organized by Child Workers in Nepal Concerned Centre (CWIN), who launched the campaign "Stay Safe Online" with the support of Save the Children Sweden. Nearly 50 participants including government officials, representatives from INGOs and NGOs, representatives from Internet Service Providers and Cyber Cafes and media were present at the opening session of the workshop. Child sexual abuse increasing

August 21, 2008

In the last six months (Jan-June 2008), CWIN recorded 64 percent of rape cases of children below 16 years among the incidents of sexual abuse in Nepal. Similarly, nine percent were the victims of incestuous rape. This fact is revealed by the Half yearly report "The State of the Rights of the Child 2008" published by CWIN-Nepal. According to the report, 121 cases of trafficking were reported in which 28 percent of cases involved children below 16 years. More>

CWIN-Nepal Report on Constituent Assembly Election and Child Rights monitoring

In the agility of Constituent Assembly election, CWIN-Nepal monitored the activities regarding use of children and incidents of violation of child rights through child rights perspective before, during and after election.

As a whole, from Child Rights perspective Constituent Assembly election was concluded in a peaceful manner except for few incidents; different political parties used children for various purposes in the election process (before, during and after election). Major political parties had pointed out that children constitute almost half of the nation's population and had included children's issues in their manifestos. Nevertheless, many examples of violating code of conduct by using children for election activities were seen during the election. More>>

Hand made Lokta paper crafts!

CWIN established Self Reliance Centre to provide vocatioal training for young people, from street and labour work background, who do not have proper opportunity to earn money. Vocational Training enables them to generate income and facilitates them to become more independent. In this context, we have a group of youth, who are trained on paper craft products. CWIN Social Marketing Department under Self Reliance Centre assists these trained young people to promote their skilled products. More>>
